Tops To Move Into Former Wade's Market Site In Farmington

Tops Friendly Markets will fill the space formerly occupied by a longtime grocery story in Farmington.

In June, it was announced that Wade's Market Center, which has been in that community for 47 years, will have to close the store by the end of October. The family owned business said its landlord decided to sell the property to a developer.

Now, Tops says it will start renovations for a new store at that Route 96 location in November. They say they hope to reopen the store before Thanksgiving. Tops officials say they will offer employment opportunities for the 150 current employees at Wade's market. Tops also plans to have gas pumps at the location by next spring.

Members of the Cheney family, which operated Wade's Market, have said they are looking to open a smaller store in the area.
