Tops Gets Approval to Buy 79 Stores

Rochester, NY – Tops Friendly Markets has received approval of its plan to buy 79 supermarkets located in New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Tops will buy Penn Traffic Company's P&C, Quality Markets & BiLo stores in the deal approved by a bankruptcy court. Penn Traffic is based in Syracuse and filed for bankruptcy in November.

The sale will close at the end of this week. Tops currently has 72 stores in Western & Central New York and four in northwestern Pennsylvania. The company employs 10,000 people.
