Tom Richards Wins Mayoral Special Election

Rochester, NY – Democrat Tom Richards defeated former mayor Bill Johnson in a tight race for Mayor of the City of Rochester.

Richards received 49 percent of the vote. Johnson garnered 42 percent of the vote running on the Working Families and Independence lines.

Former Mayor Johnson congratulated Richards and thanked campaign workers in a concession speech Tuesday night.

Richards was the former city corporation counsel and then Deputy Mayor under Robert Duffy. Duffy is now Lt. Governor and Richards' victory means he will fill out the remainder of Duffy's term - a little less than 3 years.

Green Party candidate Alex White received 9 percent of the vote.
