Thousands of teachers from all over the state will gather in Albany on Saturday morning protesting about a number of education issues.

The main argument the teachers have has to do with the recent rollout of new testing standards. Officials with New York State United Teachers, the union that is sponsoring the rally, believes the state is putting too much emphasis on the testing, without providing the funding needed to help students meet those standards.

The Rochester area staff director for the union, Tom Gillett, says parents and teachers both have complained about the new testing standards.

"Most teachers are also parents, so their own children are suffering from these ridiculous tests and it's really hurting their education."

Gillette says the teachers don't have a problem with the idea behind the new Common Core standards, but they don't feel students have had enough preparation yet.  He says several hundred teachers from the Rochester area will be at the rally at the Empire State Plaza, with a total of more than 10,000 teachers expected there.
