Thousands Expected to Mourn Amish Farmers

Jasper, NY – Two thousand Amish are expected will travel by horse and buggy to the town of Jasper to pay their final respects to their loved ones.

Earlier this week in Benton, a car attempting to pass a slow moving tractor crashed into a van carrying a group of Amish farmers. 5 were killed.

Two of the victims will be buried Friday and the remaining three on Saturday.

Steuben County Sheriff Joel Ordway says he is coordinating efforts with state troopers to slow traffic down to a safe pace since all of the Amish will travel by horse and buggy.

Ordway says several messages posted on signs around town are offering words of support to the Amish and the town is collecting donations for the families of the victims.
