A temporary homeless shelter will soon be closing its doors, but those who run the shelter want to thank the community for their support and are emphasizing no one will be left out in cold.

The Rev. Peter Peters is with Rochester Emergency Action Committee for the Homeless, or REACH..

Since November, the BRIDGE Home on Ontario Street has been providing shelter, in anticipation of the new House of Mercy opening on Ormond Street.

"We have raised close to $15,000, $16,000, and for that amount of money, we've been able to run a shelter for around 40 people every night," said the Reverend Peter Peters, with the group Rochester Emergency Action Committee for the Homeless, or REACH, which runs the shelter.

Redeeming Word Church allowed them to use the building, but it was always designed to be a temporary arrangement.

"They were okay with us being there until January, and maybe extending through February, but not much beyond that," he said.

Rev. Peters wants to thank the community for their support, and he says one will be turned out into the cold.

He says the volunteers at BRIDGE Home have successfully placed many of shelter's population into permanent housing, and they continue to work to place others.

But more community support is still needed.
