Sydor Technologies will soon call Fairport home

Sydor Technologies is preparing a move to Fairport.

The technology company, which specializes in optics, is currently located near the airport. CEO Michael Pavia says they recently received tax credits and grants to expand business.

As a result, the company is moving into a 41,000-square-foot facility where it can manufacture products and research and develop new ones. Pavia says their current building is just 16,000 square feet.

The company also will be able to increase its employee pool. Currently, 23 people work there, but in five years, leadership there plans to add another 36 jobs.

Sydor received more than $5 million in Small Business Innovation Research grants and received another $900,000 in tax credits from New York state. Pavia says the funding contributed greatly to the move and expansion.

“Rather than have the money leave the company in the form of tax payments," Pavia says, "we can leave that money invested in the company and use it to hire more people and buy more equipment to grow quickly.”

Pavia says he’s already a Fairport resident and has lived there for at least a decade. Now, his employees will get a chance to explore the village.

“We’ll be frequently visiting the local restaurants and after work, the nightlife there, and Fairport Canal Days and all that stuff, so the village is close to the facility,” Pavia said.

Sydor products, which include everything from camera parts to X-ray technologies, are sold internationally, Pavia says. For him, this cements Rochester’s long history “as the center of the world for optics and imaging.”

A date for the move has not been announced yet.
