Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli was officially sworn in to office on Saturday at the Public Safety Building. He was appointed as interim chief after Chief Jim Sheppard retired last year.

Ciminelli has more than 35 years experience in law enforcement including 17 with the Rochester Police Department.  He served as Deputy Chief of Administration before being named Interim Chief.

Mayor Lovely Warren, who appointed Ciminelli to the job in early March, gave the oath of office Saturday during the private ceremony.

Ciminelli grew up in the 19th Ward. He’s a graduate of RIT and MCC and also has a law degree from the University of Buffalo. His past job experience also includes time as an Assistant District Attorney in Monroe County, and he is a past chief of the Elmira Police Department.

Ciminelli comes on board as Mayor Warren has pushed for increasing the number of police sections in the city.
