A new survey by the Rochester Business Alliance shows that local employers are planning a nearly three percent wage hike for their workers this year. The average projected pay increase is 2.8%.
That's slightly higher than it has been over the last five years. RBA President Sandy Parker says one notable item in the survey results is that employers are also planning a modest pay hike for unskilled workers.
"Going from $10.59 in 2013 to $10.84 an hour in 2014, so that really I think shows a sense of confidence a sense of certainly wanting to attract good workers, even into entry-level jobs."
The survey also shows that employers are expecting the cost of benefits to rise, including health, disability and other types of insurance and benefits.
