Officials with SUNY Geneseo say that the largest fundraising campaign in the college's history has reached a successful conclusion with donors committing in excess of $23 million during the five-year national campaign, “Shaping Lives of Purpose, The Campaign for Geneseo.”

The announcement came Friday evening during a celebration honoring Geneseo President Christopher Dahl, who is retiring next June after 20 years with the college, including the past 18 years as president.

1964 Geneseo alumnus and  real estate developer Greg O’Connell announced a $1 million gift, saying Geneseo was a big part of his life and he wanted to give something back.

Funds from the campaign are supporting a variety of projects including the college’s scholarship program, student research projects, such as the Center for Inquiry, Discovery and Development and the college’s athletic program.

Funds also will support the college’s faculty and academic programs through investment in high-impact learning experiences, interdisciplinary coursework and strong library resources.
