A top official at Roberts Wesleyan College says that many people at that  Chili-based school are angry about the racial epithets written on a dormitory wall this week. The college plans to respond aggressively to that incident.

Hundreds of students attended a  meeting at the college Friday to talk about the incident where the racial slurs were scrawled on the door and wall of a dorm suite, which is occupied by several African American students who are also members of the basketball team.

And College Vice President for Student Development, Nelson Hill, says many staff, students and faculty have expressed outrage about what happened and they want to make it clear that, that kind of sentiment doesn't represent the vast majority of people who are part of the Roberts Wesleyan community.

He says the college will be proactive in making sure the students impacted know that people at Roberts Wesleyan support them.

“We will continue the path we have been on  and we will use this as an opportunity to actually have more discussions and dive deeper into this area. We want to be known for how we respond to this, not by what happened with the incident.”

Hill says students and staff attending basketball games on campus this weekend are also showing their support for the people impacted by the graffiti.

There was also the theft of some money from that dorm suite and deputies and campus security are investigating the entire incident.
