Strong winds knock out power to thousands

Strong winds helped bring down tree branches and power lines late Friday afternoon and into the evening. The winds gusted close to 60mph on Friday.

Overall, nearly 5,000 utility customers were affected throughout the region, with the bulk of them in Monroe and Wayne Counties.

As of early Saturday morning,RG&E listed about 800 customers without power in Monroe and another 800 in Wayne County, and its partner utility, NYSEGhad about 700 customers affected in Wayne, and 175 in Ontario County. By early afternoon, that number was down to 800.

·         RG&E customers should call 1.800.743.1701 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations

Few National Grid customers in the Rochester area were without power early Saturday.

The forecast calls for a nice day Saturday, sunshine, with a high in the 70s, and some clouds on Sunday, with showers later in the day and a high of 68.
