Strong West Emergency Dept. For Brockport Gets State Approval

www.urmc.rochester.edu

The NYS Health Department has given its approval for an off-campus Emergency Department at the former Lakeside Hospital in Brockport.  That location is now run by UR Medicine as their "Strong West" site.

The current urgent care center will switch over to become Strong West Emergency as of 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Officials say this will mean a return of high-level, 24 hour emergency care to the Brockport area, which has lacked emergency services since Lakeside closed in the spring of last year.

This will be the first such model in New York State. Unlike urgent care centers, these emergency departments can accept patients brought in by ambulance and are staffed by a doctor 24 hours a day. Because an off-campus emergency department does not have in-patient hospital beds, Strong West will have three short-term observation beds.

Patients who require more intensive care will be transferred to Strong or Highland Hospitals or another hospital that the patient chooses.
