The building that is home to The Century Club of Rochester has been purchased by the owners of the building just across the street, The Strathallan Hotel.

Those involved include David Christa of Christa Development and Robert Morgan, of Morgan Management. They are partners in several ventures including the Strathallan Hotel which has undergone major renovation in recent years.

Christa and Morgan say that while some aesthetic renovations are underway, the new owners are committed to maintaining the mansion's authentic Victorian charm. The Strathallan is now booking the space for various kinds of gatherings, including corporate and community banquets, weddings and other events.

The East Avenue building was constructed in 1896 as a private residence for Albrecht Vogt, a pioneer in electric light and power. It was built at a time when a number of women's clubs were springing up around the country as the women's movement was also gaining traction.

The Century Club bought the building in 1913. The Director of Sales for the Strathallan, Paul Walters, says the club will continue to rent space in the building for its events. He says the Strathallan owners are also working on renovating a carriage house located behind the Century Club  mansion, so it can eventually be used as a full-service spa.
