State Schedules Repair Work On Bridges In Gates

The NYS Transportation Department has scheduled some repair work on bridges in Gates that recently became a focal point for complaints by Town Supervisor Mark Assini.

The DOT says that Trolley Boulevard at I-390 will be reduced to a single, alternating lane of traffic during the daytime hours beginning Thursday. The work is to be completed next week.

Construction crews are working on the underside of the Route 390 bridges over over Trolley Boulevard to make repairs.  They are removing loose concrete and installing a wooden form-work to capture any loose concrete that may develop in the future.

DOT officials say they accelerated the annual inspection scheduled for November to earlier this month. The inspection identified areas of concrete and steel in need of repair and that work is being scheduled.

Earlier this year, Assini expressed concerns about the 44 year old bridges that the DOT said were safe. In March, pieces of concrete from underneath the bridges fell onto Trolley Boulevard.

Assini had said earlier if he had the power, he'd shut down the bridge and Trolley Boulevard underneath.
