State Dollars To Boost Canadian Tourism Campaign

VisitRochester’s Canadian tourism campaign is expanding.

The tourism agency has been awarded with $200,000 in state funding from last year's Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council competition.

Don Jeffries, President and CEO of VisitRochester, says the infusion of state dollars has allowed them to recruit 22 new investing partners to help promote the region.

Jeffries says the expanded campaign is expected to attract more than 30,000 Canadian visitors to travel to the Genesee Valley, Southern Tier and Central New York.

"This is a great market for us to hit and try to bring some more travel dollars into Rochester because in a year's period of time it's around a billion dollar impact," Jeffries says. "With that $200,000 we actually have a Saturday morning radio show for 10 weeks up in Toronto.”

The campaign runs through 2015.
