Spokesperson For Sen. Maj. Leader Skelos Responds To Report That He's Under Investigation

A report from New York City's WNBC-TV says that New York Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos is under federal investigation.

The report says U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara is examining Skelos' sources of income, specifically those tied to the real estate industry.

On Friday morning, a spokesperson for the State Senate Majority office issued this response:

"Last night's thinly-sourced report by WNBC is irresponsible, and does not meet the standards of serious journalism. Senator Skelos has not been contacted by anyone from the U.S. Attorney's Office. As such, we won't be commenting further."

The news comes less than a week after New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was charged with corruption by Bharara. Silver is expected to leave his post as Speaker by Monday. Skelos, who is the highest ranking Republican in Albany, has not been charged with any crime.
