Siena College is out with asurvey that probably won't surprise you if you've been following the increasing use of cell phones over landlines, and the utilization of smartphones for a whole range of activities.

The survey shows that 90 percent of New Yorkers now use cell phones, and with that, the poll also shows that more than one-fifth of homes in the state no longer have landlines. About two-thirds of New York households have both a landline and at least one cell phone, but 21 percent of all households have no landlines.

Of those who do have landlines, 69 percent of New Yorkers say they get home telephone service through their cable company.

Nearly three-quarters of  New Yorkers use their cell phones for texting. Nearly two-thirds of those with smartphones use them for both work and personal use.  90 percent of smartphone users are satisfied with their provider company.

Of the 84 percent of New Yorkers who pay for television at home, only 16 percent have TV service through the internet. The majority receive it through cable or satellite TV.
