Several Fairport Homes Evacuated Due To Flooding

TWC News

The water is slowly receding in Fairport. Residents and businesses along the Erie Canal in the village of Fairport were evacuated Friday night because of flooding.

Fairport Mayor Fritz May told Time Warner Cable News that  eight homes on Liftbridge Lane, Railroad Street and Water Street were evacuated.

The electricity was cut to some homes and businesses.

Water spread all the way across the railroad tracks. Trains are continuing to run, but they are just going through the area slowly.

Main St. was reopened early Saturday morning, but some other streets remained closed.

May said he's never seen anything like this in the village. He says this is a lot worse than a flood that affected a couple of properties in 2004.
