Several staffers at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester are losing their jobs, as part of cutbacks nationwide this week at parent company Gannett.
According to the D & C eight full-time people lost their jobs on Tuesday. Daniel Norselli, president of D&C Digital says those jobs represent about 2.4 percent of the local Gannett workforce.
Today is a really tough day for eight very talented people, their families and colleagues,” Norselli told the paper. “These are individuals who have contributed a great deal to our company and our community. Yet, our transformation requires us to adapt to the never-ending changes in our industry and consumers’ media habits."
“As a business we must always look at ways to compete effectively,” said Norselli. “As an organization, D&C Digital remains focused on the future, committed to our community and to providing the highest level of journalism and marketing solutions to our customers and clients.”
Politico reported this week that Gannett was cutting two percent of its workforce nationwide, about 350 jobs.
