Senator Schumer Brings Syracuse Junior to State of The Union

Senator Charles Schumer’s extra ticket to Tuesday’s State of the Union Address is taken.

The Democrat announced Monday that he will bring Syracuse University Junior Sean McAllister.

McAllister is a junior at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

The invitation is mean to highlight plans to address the high cost of a college education in the United States. “He’s half way through college, but 30k in the red,” says Schumer.

McAllister’s debt load isn’t unusual. In the Rochester Finger Lakes region the average college graduate has about 30 thousand dollars in student loan debt.

Schumer wants to draw attention to the fact that student loan debt in the United States is more than $1 trillion dollars. He is collecting stories on his website about how this debt is affecting New Yorkers.
