Search For Brittanee Drexel Marks 5th Anniversary

ncmissingpersons.org

Friday marks the fifth anniversary of  the disappearance of Brittanee Drexel, the Chili teen who went missing while on spring break in Myrtle Beach.

Brittanee’s mother is still working to remind people that the search is still going on. Dawn Drexel is a lot closer now to the area where 17 year old Brittanee disappeared in 2009. Earlier this year, Dawn moved to the Myrtle Beach area. She says police in that region have kept this case active, but by her being close by, it helps her keep tabs on how the investigation is going.

“Me being down here, (it helps me) keep up with them, make sure her case is still active, make sure it’s still out in the media, make sure people are still looking for her.”

Drexel also volunteers for an organization in that region, the Cue Center for Missing Persons. She says it gives her a chance to help people who have been involved in a similar situation.

Dawn Drexel says even after all this time, she still holds out hope that Brittanee will be found alive one day.

“I’ve never had that feeling that a mother gets, that their child is gone, never had that feeling. I think that Brittanee is out there somewhere and she just can’t contact us.”

Drexel says even if her daughter is not alive, she at least wants to find some resolution to Brittanee’s disappearance. There are activities being held in the Rochester area, in Charlotte, both Friday and Saturday to help raise awareness about the search.
