Schumer: Hydrocodone Abuse Rampant (VIDEO)

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer says the rampant use of hydrocodone has been linked to an increase in heroin abuse.

He says prescription drug abuse is the second most prevalent illegal drug problem in Monroe County.

Schumer points to the 31-thousand tablets seized by law enforcement that the Crime Lab determined were controlled prescriptions.

He says medical professionals have determined that hydrocodone has become the most widely abused drug in the world, and is less regulated than other pain killers.

Schumer is promoting legislation that would make hydrocodone a Schedule II drug, one that would require a written or electronic prescription, and be subject to other restrictions on prescribing and storing the substance.
