School board considering next steps after Brizard's departure

Rochester, NY – Members of the Rochester Board if Education met Monday night to begin negotiating the departure of School Superintendent Jean Claude Brizard, as well as taking on the unfinished business of his proposed budget for the coming year, and planning for his replacement.
Brizard was tapped Monday morning by incoming Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel to become chief executive of the Chicago public school system, the third largest in the country.
He leaves after three and a half years at the helm in Rochester.
Rochester School Board member Melisza Campos says he leaves behind a good deal of unfinished business, including closure of a $70 million-plus budget gap.
Ms. Campos says terms of Brizard's departure will be negotiated--as will the final shape of his budget proposal, which at this stage is still subject to substantial change.
