Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has named Arild Remmereit their next music director and conductor.
RPO CEO Charles Owens introduced Remmereit as the music director-designate in a Wednesday morning news conference. Remmereit has spent the last five years guest-conducting around the world. While he's been offered other conducting jobs in recent years, he says didn't feel right about them.
Remmereit, who's 48-years-old, is from Norway. He made his first appearance in Rochester two seasons ago when he was a last minute fill-in for an ailing guest conductor. Remmereit currently makes his home in Vienna.
He will begin his tenure as music director in the 2011-2012 season.
