Rochester Police have charged a 16 year old with attempted murder after he allegedly fired a shot from a handgun at one of their officers.
The bullet missed the officer, Kelly Phillips, and she was not injured.
It happened at about 1:40pm on Sunday on the west side. Authorities say that Phillips, a 16-year veteran of the RPD, saw someone matching the description of a suspect in a report about shots being fired near Santee Street.
When the officer approached Ernestiaze Moore of Rochester, he allegedly fired a shot at Phillips, which missed her, and then he took off on foot. Officials say Phillips did not return fire but chased Moore and the teen was caught by other officers a short time later near Dewey Avenue and Emerson Street.
Chief Michael Ciminelli says a handgun was recovered in the vicinity but it has not yet been confirmed if that was the gun used to fire at the officer.
Moore also faces a charge of criminal possession of a weapon. He will be tried as an adult.
