RPD officer suffers minor injury trying to stop suspect in a stolen car

Rochester Police say an officer suffered a minor injury while trying to take the driver of a stolen vehicle into custody.

It happened Saturday morning, when police were in the area of Jefferson Ave. and Iceland Park on the southwest side of the city and saw a male in a parked stolen car.

They say an officer tried to take the suspect into custody, but the male put the car into drive and fled.

The officer, who was not immediately identified, suffered a minor shoulder injury while trying to stop the suspect from getting away.

Other officers went after the driver, and authorities say one of the officers involved in the pursuit was involved in a one car accident at Colvin and Danforth Streets. The police car was damaged when it hit a light pole, but the officer was not injured.

Police say the stolen vehicle hit a curb on Frost Avenue, causing a flat tire, and the car went off the road. The suspect then took off on foot and police are still looking for him.
