RoCo To Launch Outdoor Public Art Exhibit

www.rochestercontemporary.org

There's a new effort to bring more public art to Rochester's East End.

RoCo, the Rochester Contemporary Art Center,  is announcing an initiative that will involve having a sculpture or other type of art work adjacent to RoCo’s gallery on East Avenue, on the grounds of Christ Church, which is adjacent to RoCo.

RoCo Executive Director Bleu Cease says the idea is to have art works which are not the type of traditional materials meant to withstand many years of being outdoors.  He's looking for sculptures or other art that would only be out there for a few months.

“We might be using digital media, we might be showing projects there that are made of ephemeral materials that age, perhaps other sculptures that change with the weather or change with the amount of time that they are outside. “

The first sculpture, going up in June, is called "What You Put In," by artist Kevin Dartt of Rochester, and it's a sculptural  water feature designed to remind people to consider the value of the Great Lakes and water conservation.

RoCo will start out with two sculptures per year and they hope to expand the project over time.
