The unemployment rate in the Rochester area dropped in June. Numbers just out from the New York State Labor Department show that the unemployment rate fell to seven percent from 8.2 percent in June of last year.
State Labor Analyst Tammy Marino tells WXXI News that the trend has generally been a positive one over the last few years.
"Hiring has been up very consistently throughout the past three years. It looks like consumers are spending more, they're dining out more, so that trend was reflected in the latest numbers; construction hiring was also especially strong this year. "
Last week the state said that the Rochester area saw an increase of 1700 private sector jobs in June, compared to a year ago.
