Rochester's Sentry Safe Sold To Master Lock

A well-known Rochester company has been sold. Sentry Safe, a leading manufacturer of personal safes, has been sold to an Illinois company called Fortune Brands for just over $117 million.

Sentry has been around since 1930, and it employs around 400 people in Rochester and another 100 in Indiana.

Sentry will become part of Fortune’s Master Lock division.  The president of that division, Terry Horan calls the deal a great fit for Master Lock. He says joining together, both companies will have more growth opportunities and he says Master Lock will be working to integrate Sentry Safe into its company over the coming weeks and months.

The operators of the company, Doug and Jim Brush, were honored in 2011 with the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial  Award by RIT’s Saunders College of Business.
