About 2,500 school board members, superintendents and teachers from across the state have gathered in Rochester this morning for the State School Boards Association's Annual convention.
State Education Commissioner John King will be on hand to address the Common Core Learning Standards and the new teacher evaluation system, both of which have generated controversy.
School safety is also on the agenda. Speakers in a forum this morning include the counsel for the Newtown, Connecticut School Board and a retired Secret Service agent.
There is also a panel discussion scheduled on what schools can learn from the events at Penn State when allegations of sexual misconduct arise.
The three day convention continues through Saturday.
