The City of Rochester has been awarded a $3 million state grant for a program aimed at helping prevent adolescent pregnancy.
Mayor Lovely Warren says the funding will help the city grow the services it provides and reach more young people.
The grant will help pay for programs for more than 1,000 youths, ages 11 through 18.
Warren says although teenage pregnancy rates in Rochester have declined recently, the latest data that is available shows teen birth rates for females ages 15 through 19 are nearly twice the national average.
The funding will also provide strategies for parents to improve parent-child communication on topics such as healthy relationships, substance use and sexual health and family planning education.
