Rochester Police Protecting Soft Targets This Weekend

In the wake of the events in Nice, France, the Rochester Police Department says it is prepared heading into this weekend when thousands of people are expected at the Pride Parade, and at First Responders Day at Frontier Field.

Spokesperson, officer Jackie Shuman, says over 40 officers will be on hand for the parade, not including patrol officers who will also be answering calls for service.

But she says the public can also help keep everyone safe.

Investigator Jacqueline Shuman is Public Information Director for the Rochester Police Department.

"We do ask the public to please call us if they hear anything, see anything. There's nothing insignificant for us to investigate, we just want them to call to alert us as to what is going on," she said.

Frontier Field also hosts a "First Responders Day" Sunday.

Shuman says the RPD will be working that event, too, but would like people to come to the ballpark to thank police officers, who have had a tough year so far.

"But if anyone hears anything or sees anything on social media please call us and let us know, so that we can be prepared for some kind of event like that," she said.

She says there aren't any obvious threats right now, but if people hear anything or see anything out of the ordinary, they're asked to call police.
