Rochester Marathon Attracts Thousands

Thousands of runners made their way  on a course through the City of Rochester and surrounding suburbs on Sunday for the 27th annual MVP Rochester Marathon. A total of more than 3,000 people took part.

The top finisher was Kip Tisia, a Rochester resident, and a Kenya native. The 26 year old broke the record for the marathon by more than six minutes, finishing the 26.2 mile course in 2 hours, 19 minutes, 59 seconds.

The top female finisher was Melissa Gillette of Indiana, who finished the marathon in 2:59:12.

The course goes through parts of Perinton, Pittsford and Brighton and the course includes part of the Erie Canal. It starts along the Andrews Street Bridge and ends up at Frontier Field.
