Rochester, NY – A Rochester man faces sentencing in Monroe County Court on January third after he falsely reported that his car was stolen.
The State Insurance Department says Khaleef Ahmad Reed didn't want to make his girlfriend cover his car payments while he was in federal prison on a weapons charge. So he hid the car in a relative's garage, then told Rochester police it was stolen while parked on the street.
Reed collected a 93-hundred dollar insurance settlement and paid off his loan.
Unfortunately for him, Reed's relative bought a car and wanted to park it in the garage. The relative called police and asked them to tow Reed's car away.
Police put two-and-two together and arrested Reed when he was released from prison. He's now being held without bail in the Monroe County Jail. He pleaded "guilty" earlier this month to grand larceny charges.
