Rochester looks for ways to display the Midtown Monorail

There’s a proposal that could get an iconic Rochester attraction out of mothballs. The former monorail from Midtown Plaza.  It was dismantled in 2008 and the equipment was put in storage.

The city has now put out a request for proposals to see if there is a company or institution who would take the monorail and set up a permanent display at no cost to the city.

Mayor Lovely Warren would like to see the monorail be out for the public to see.

“We want to keep it public, we want to make it useful again and to bring back memories and create new memories for our children.”

The city is obligated to preserve the monorail under agreements that were made with the state when Midtown Plaza was demolished.

Officials prefer the monorail be kept within the city limits or nearby, but will entertain other ideas as well.
