Rochester & Locust Club Reach Agreement On Police Reorganization

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren says that the city and the police union, the Locust Club, have reached an agreement on her police reorganization plan.

She says that for the last several days, the city and the union have been involved in negotiations which resulted in a Memorandum of Agreement signed on Friday. That will result in a new reorganization implementation date of April 20.  That's a few weeks later than the March 30 date city officials originally had planned for.

The police union had asked the state Public Employment Relations Board last month to issue an injunction barring the city from going forward with the plan.

The union's issues with the plan for the five neighborhood sections included concerns over how many substation buildings would be available as well as some other logistics. The state board had denied the injunction.

Now, Warren says an email coming from both Police Chief Michael Ciminelli and Locust Club President Mike Mazzeo to all RPD officers and staff will allow the department to move forward with the reorganization.

More details on the agreement are expected next week.
