Rochester Joins the Major Leagues in Women's Golf

Pittsford, NY – The Locust Hill golf club will host one of four 2010 LPGA Championships in June.

The Wegmans food chain will replace McDonald's as sponsor for the season's second major.

Rochester can expect the best women golfers to swing their clubs in town.

Larry DeWine is the president of Locust Hill Country Club.

"The club's enjoyed a long history of women's golf over the past 34 years, and we now have the chance to shine as this flagship major championship comes to the LPGA," DeWine says. "History again will be made on our golf course. We couldn't be more excited, and we promise you the course will be ready to challenge the best women's golfers in the world for this title."

The tournament will be held June 21 through July 27.

Wegmans presents a $2.25 million purse, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Children's Success Fund for the United Way.

Locust Hill has held tournaments since 1977.

Ticket sales are expected to start in about two weeks.

The four other Major Championships are Kraft Nabisco Championship in Palm Springs, the U-S Women's Open in Pittsburgh and RICOH Women's British Open in Oakland.
