Rochester Honors Business Hall Of Fame Inductees

Five Rochester-area businesspeople were inducted into the Rochester Business Hall of Fame Tuesday night.

They included Paul DeCarolis of DeCarolis truck rental; Jane Glazer, founder and CEO of QCI Direct; Robert Hopkins and John Bruning of Tropel  and Corning-Tropel;  and Claude Wright of Wright Beverage distributing.

Particia Leva, president of  the local Junior Achievement chapter which helps run the Hall of Fame, says those inducted into the hall have to demonstrate a number of qualities.

"We look for individuals that have not only made extraordinary contributions in business, but are also visionaries; they're pioneers within their industry. So while they're businesses might have started here locally, they've expanded, and they're national or even international in reach ."

Leva says giving back to the community is also a very important qualification to be inducted into the hall of fame.

Many of the 500 or so people attending the event at the convention center Tuesday night were thinking about Jane Glazer, who died in a plane crash last month with her husband Larry.

Leva says both of them had a big impact on not just business, but the Rochester community overall.

"It's a very special evening, of course Larry Glazer was inducted into the hall of fame back in 2006, and of course Jane, tonight, 2014. You know I think it's very important that we all remember really the importance of their impact on this community."

Jane Glazer started the catalog company QCI Direct in 1983.
