With temperatures expected in the low 90s on Friday, the City of Rochester has declared its 'Heat Emergency.' That's part of the city's Cool Sweep program and it provides residents with the opportunity to get relief from the heat with things like extended hours at city pools, Durand Eastman Beach and spray parks.

City pools will be closed until 2pm on Friday to staff the Aqua Fest swim meet at the Genesee Valley Park Pool.

During a heat emergency, Cool Sweep extends to several libraries and recreation centers where residents can get to air conditioned buildings if they don't have it at home.

They include:

-  Carter Street R-Center gym (Monday to Friday, closes at 9 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), 500 Carter St.

•  Arnett Branch Library (Monday to Friday, closes at 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), 310 Arnett Blvd.

•  Lincoln Branch Library (Monday to Friday, closes at 9 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.),     851 Joseph Ave.

•  Maplewood Branch Library (Monday to Friday, closes at 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), 1111 Dewey Ave.

•  Winton Road Branch Library (Monday to Friday, closes at 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), 611 N. Winton Rd.

Cool Sweep is triggered when the forecast calls for temperatures to reach or exceed 85 degrees. When temperatures are forecasted to be 90 degrees and above, a Cool Sweep Heat Emergency is initiated.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo announced that hours for public swimming at Ontario Beach Park will be extended Friday until 8pm due to the high heat and humidity.
