Rochester Drivers Don't Rank Well On New Accident Survey

A new survey of the safest cities in the U.S. when it comes to vehicle accidents doesn't rank Rochester very well.

The survey by the Allstate Insurance Company ranks America's 200 largest cities in terms of the frequency of car collisions to identify which cities have the safest drivers.

Rochester ranked near the bottom, coming in at number 144, with the study showing that the average driver in Rochester will experience a car accident every eight years.

We did a little better than Buffalo, which ranked 178, and a little worse than Syracuse, which came in at 136. A spokesperson for Allstate says that this survey shouldn't discourage Rochester drivers; instead she says it should challenge them to make positive changes to their driving.

The Allstate survey also takes into account factors like population density and weather, and the spokesperson says obviously, the wintry weather upstate has an impact on these numbers.

For the fourth time in the survey's history, the top honor for America's Safest Driving City went to Fort Collins, Colorado. The city with the worst numbers in terms of accidents was Worcester, Massachusetts.
