Rochester Democratic mayoral debate scheduled for Sept. 7th

There will be a televised debate among the candidates in the Rochester Democratic Mayoral Primary.

That’s after the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce announced on Thursday that it would cancel its candidates’ forum on September 7th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

That forum would have included all of the mayoral candidates, not just those participating in the September 12th Democratic Primary.

Chamber President Bob Duffy says because of the unforeseen circumstances behind the cancellation of other mayoral debates and forums, the Chamber wanted to offer the date for the Democratic candidates to arrange a party-only primary debate.

Mayor Lovely Warren is facing challenges from James Sheppard and Rachel Barnhart. Warren’s campaign issued a statement on Thursday saying that it would take part in a debate earlier organized by Channel 8 and the League of Women Voters.

That debate is scheduled to air from 5:30 pm to 6:30pm on Thursday, September 7 at the Ch. 8 studios.

Originally, the mayoral Democratic Primary candidates were scheduled to take part in a debate at WXXI organized by Voice of the Voter, but that debate, and the earlier one organized by Ch. 8 and the League of Women Voters were scrapped after Warren was admitted to the hospital for several days, dealing with an allergic reaction.

We'll have more details in the coming days on how you can watch and listen to the September 7th debate.
