Rochester Becomes A "Let's Move" City

The City of Rochester has received a designation the mayor hopes will result in its residents living healthier lives.

Rochester has been designated an official "Let's Move" city.  That according to Mayor Lovely Warren, who says she is accepting a challenge from First Lady Michelle Obama to encourage local communities to find ways of fighting childhood obesity.

The campaign encourages early care and education providers to incorporate best practices in nutrition and physical activity and to expand access to programs that offer healthy food during the school year and over the summer months.

The Let's Move initiative was launched by Mrs. Obama in 2010, and at that time, she called on mayors to take a leadership role.

Warren says that having grown up as an obese child who finally found a path to healthy living, she doesn't want to see other children faced with the emotional and physical pain of obesity.

The mayor says that Rochester has an abundance of recreational and fund activities that residents should take advantage of.
