Rochester Airport roads reopened after being closed for 'suspicious condition'

Monroe County

Update as of 3:55 p.m.

This statement from Monroe County officials:

All roadways at the Greater Rochester International Airport have been reopened. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has concluded their investigation of a suspicious condition.

Earlier today, the airport received specific threats which combined with two unattended bags created a suspicious condition. Based on this information, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office treated the situation as a threat which needed to be investigated. Following their investigation, they determined that the threats and unattended bags were not connected and subsequently re-opened the airport roadways.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s investigation into the threats is ongoing.

Because of the investigation travelers who were arriving at the airport had to wait in satellite parking lots; some parked along nearby roads.  Arriving passengers had to wait in the terminal until the roads were reopened. Some flights were delayed.

Update from Monroe County as of 2:50 p.m.:

AIRPORT ROADWAYS TEMPORARILY CLOSED – UPDATE 1

All roadways at the Greater Rochester International Airport are temporarily closed. The Monroe County Sheriffs Office is investigating a suspicious condition.

Inbound arriving passengers are being held in the gate area until the Monroe County Sheriffs Office has completed their investigation.

Outbound departing passengers should stage in the Red and White Parking Lots until the roadways are reopened as they will not be allowed to enter airport property until the investigation is complete. Passengers should check with their airline to see if their flight has been delayed. If their flight has departed, passengers should contact their airline for re-booking.

The checkpoints inside the terminal have also been temporarily closed.  Several flights were delayed this afternoon. If you plan on taking a flight out of the airport, check with your airline.
