Rochester Air Show Draws Thousands

blueangels.navy.mil

Thousands came out to the 2015 Rochester International Air Show over the weekend, and while there were many aerial acrobatic acts, the big draw of course, is the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.

They fly as a team of six, F-18 Hornets and one C-130 Hercules support aircraft, called “Fat Albert.”

There were WWII vintage aircraft as well including Whiskey 7, a restored C-47 troop carrier that participated in the D-Day invasion. It had made the trip from Geneseo to Normany, France for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.  Proceeds from the event will go towards the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks says the airshow likely will total up record crowds over the two days.

According to Time Warner Cable News, a piece of one of the Blue Angel jets came off the plane during Saturday’s demonstration.

A piece of a wing was found floating in the water near RIT by someone fishing in the wetlands there. TWC was told by the flight team they have a great safety record and take the matter seriously and will investigate how the piece came off the plane.
