For the past several weeks on WXXI’s Need to Know Rochester, viewers have learned about the connection between the city on the Genesee and some of the villages throughout South Sudan. Local non-profits, many founded by former Lost Boys of Sudan, are working to bring stability and hope to the people of their homeland.
But the work doesn’t stop in South Sudan. Rochester-based non-profits like Joining Hearts and Hands (founded by Bill and Joanne Cala) are also on the ground on the continent of Africa building schools and health clinics in an effort to improve the conditions of orphans and their communities.
This interview provides more information about the work of Joining Hearts and Hands.
