The City of Rochester has achieved the highest ranking available in the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index, which assesses LGBTQ equality in more than 500 cities across the country.
The top score of 100 marks the 3rd year in a row the city received that ranking from the advocacy group.
Mayor Lovely Warren says Rochester has a long history of being a diverse and welcoming city.
Rochester was the first municipality in the state to elect an openly gay council person in 1985. In 2014, the city began offering trans-inclusive health coverage to employees.
Councilman Matt Haag says that for decades, Rochester has been ahead of the curve on LGBTQ issues.
Among other New York cities, Albany, New York City and Yonkers also scored 100.
