ROC the Day Tops Last Year's Total To Help Local Not-For-Profit Organizations

roctheday.org

An effort to help hundreds of not-for-profit organizations in the Rochester area in a 24-hour, online giving event raised a total of $875,765 on Tuesday.

The money raised by ROC the Day was $31,000 more than last year, and it represents more than 8,300 donations.

This year’s event coincided with #GivingTuesday, a global day modeled after Cyber Monday, but dedicated to giving back.

“It’s been an incredible five years for our community,” said Juli Geyer, Director of Marketing and Communications at United Way of Greater Rochester. “Hundreds of local causes and organizations have gotten a boost year after year to really help our community thrive.”

The United Way of Greater Rochester organizes the event.

It was the 5th year for ROC the Day, which organizers say gained momentum this year by capitalizing on people sharing the event on social media.

WXXI was a registered participant in this year's ROC the Day event.
