The University of Rochester announced its provost today.

Rob Clark is Senior Vice President for Research and the Dean of the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the UR, and he will be the university's 10th provost in July. President Joel Seligman says Clark has already proven his leadership.

"Rob presided over the integration of computer science into our Hajim School of Engineering. He helped orchestrate the fabrication lab in Rettnor hall. He is helping coordinate efforts to build Wegmans Hall, which will be the sight of the new Goergen Hall of Data Science."

Clark has seen the number of students at the engineering school almost double during his tenure, and he also played a major role in drafting the 700 page proposal for an AIM Photonics center in Rochester.

"He has been an extraordinarily consequential figure in our efforts."

Clark says he considers it an honor and a privilege to serve as the university's tenth provost.

"It's exciting, this is a great institution, a great community, and I think there's a wonderful opportunity here to continue on in all the good work we've been doing so far."

Clark will succeed Peter Lennie, who has been provost since 2012. Seligman says they have begun a national search for Clark's replacement as Dean of the Hajim school of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
