Rochester Gas and Electric has been awarded nearly $3 million from the federal government for improvements to one of the company's hydropower plants on the Genesee River.
The $2.8 million grant comes from the 2009 economic stimulus program. It will help pay for improvements to an RG&E hydroelectric plant at High Falls, known as Station 2.
The utility has three hydropower plants along the Genesee River in Rochester.
RG&E says it has invested more than $12 million at that High Falls plant over the last four years to boost its generating capacity and to make the plant more efficient.
